Public/Private Partners Partnerships play an integral role in Justice Without Borders: The Johnson Foundation Donated the use of its Wingspread complex for the 2001 Justice Without Borders International Summit. In addition, The Johnson Foundation provided the use of Wingspread for a November 2000 planning meeting. Wingspread -- "The history of a place where ideas that make a difference are born and nurtured and grow." Wingspread is a majestic complex located by Lake Michigan in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. It designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Johnson Wax family, and was subsequently donated to The Johnson Foundation in 1961. Ina Pogainis Justice Without Borders is also made possible by a generous gift from Ina Pogainis. For nearly 25 years, Ina has worked as a public defender, seeking justice for clients within the borders of Wisconsin. But she has always understood that the basic human need for justice transcends borders. When Ina was born, her parents were refugees living in Germany in the aftermath of World War II. Her parents fled Latvia and later immigrated to the United States because the Soviets had occupied their homeland. The years in displaced persons camps in Germany and then starting over in a new country, posed many hardships for her parents. They emphasized to their children the many occasions where they were defenseless and without resources but that the assistance of strangers made all the difference. Ina is grateful that she can now make a contribution to the pursuit of justice beyond Wisconsin's and America's borders. Ina has defended the rights of clients, while making time to train and mentor many other attorneys. She presently oversees four public defender offices, and continues to represent clients. Her life's work, and her generous contribution to the Justice Without Borders Foundation, are testament to her commitment to providing Justice for All. University of Wisconsin Law School Justice Without Borders is able to accept contributions subject to 501(c)3 tax treatment through the University of Wisconsin Law School's Wisconsin Law Alumni Association. Such a service is a tribute to the integral relationship of public-private partnerships in the success of Justice Without Borders. Midwest Express Airlines Midwest Express Airlines kindly provided all domestic air travel associated with the planning meeting at Wingspread in November 2000. In addition, well over 100 private partners have made individual monetary contributions and in-kind donations when Israel sent 10 of their staff to Wisconsin in 1998. |
